Prescription Drug Coverage

Ontario helps pay for prescription drugs. Seniors 65+ are covered automatically (Ontario Drug Benefit); younger residents with high drug costs and no insurance can use the Trillium Drug Program.

Who qualifies

  • Everyone 65+ is covered automatically the month after turning 65 (Ontario Drug Benefit).
  • Under 65 without private insurance, the Trillium Drug Program helps when drug costs are high relative to income.

How to apply

    At 65, coverage is automatic

    If you are 65+, the Ontario Drug Benefit starts automatically. Low-income seniors can apply to the Seniors Co-Payment Program to lower costs further.

    If you have high drug costs relative to your income and no private plan, register for the Trillium Drug Program.
