Who qualifies

  • You must be 18+ and have a severe mental or physical impairment expected to last 2 or more years that directly and significantly restricts daily activities.
  • A prescribed professional must confirm you need help (from a person, an assistive device, or an assistance animal) with daily activities.

How to apply

    Apply for the PWD designation

    Ask the Ministry for the PWD application. It has a self-report, a medical report from your doctor, and an assessor report (a nurse, social worker, or others).

    Submit and wait for a decision

    Submit the completed forms. If approved, you begin receiving monthly disability assistance.

    • 💡 A PWD designation also opens the BC Bus Pass and other supplements.
